Traffic Crash Dictionaries

The NMDOT crash database contains three data levels:

  • Crash-level – One row per crash. Information includes location, date, fatalities, injuries, crash type, indicators like alcohol.
  • Vehicle-level – One row per vehicle/driver/non-motorist. Information includes age, sex, vehicle specifications, driver actions, contributing factors, sobriety.
  • Occupant-level – One row per person. Information includes age, sex, belt usage.

The database is compiled from Uniform Crash Reports, a statewide form that law enforcement agencies submit to NMDOT for any crash on a public roadway involving a motor vehicle that resulted in death, injury, or $500+ in property damage. No account is kept of unreported crashes, and the database does not include crashes on private property.
